Graduate Profile

The Institute's learning methodology is one of applying adult learning principles within non-judgemental, self-directed parameters. This focuses on participants' professional developmental needs and their capacity to add value to their organisation through an applied case study problem-solving approach. Within this learning environment, participants can retreat from their organisational responsibilities, undertake critical self-reflection and have the opportunity to analyse strategic issues in leadership and management, debate alternative solutions to issues and develop professional networks.

Typically, a graduate of AIPM 601 is a middle-ranking officer (from Australia or overseas) in the early stages of an executive career. Most jurisdictions view the Graduate Certificate program as an important step in the academic and professional development of middle-ranking officers. Graduates of AIPM 701 are expected to reach executive levels in public sector management. The course attracts attendance by senior managers from throughout the international public safety and emergency services community.

The AIPM Graduate Certificate in Applied Management is designed so that students will develop their strategic thinking, conceptual and analytical skills, and gain a sound knowledge of management, public policy and public administration. They will graduate with increased knowledge, skills and confidence, contributing to improved attitudes, ethical conduct and enhanced public service delivery.

Classroom learning

The AIPM Graduate Diploma in Executive Leadership aims to produce graduates with the knowledge, skills and personal attributes necessary to develop and implement public policy in an advanced leadership role. They will be capable of understanding the broad social and ethical implications of public policy and practice, and will provide personal leadership in their modeling of attitudes and values.

Both courses aim to produce graduates with a well-founded knowledge of their field of study, critical judgemental, effective communication skills, the ability to think and learn independently and a strong sense of ethical and social responsibility.
