Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Leadership Development Program (LDP)
Since 2004 the AIPM has been delivering leadership training to the Solomon Islands Police Force (SIPF). During 2004 and 2005 a number of SIPF officers participated in out programs. As a result of the success of these programs, the SIPF in consultation with the Australian Federal Police International Deployment Group (IDG) decided to engage the AIPM to deliver a more comprehensive program known as the LDP.
Commencing in 2006 the LDP features a comprehensive approach to deliver leadership development training across all levels of the SIPF. There are five key levels of training. Level One is the provision of leadership lessons to be delivered by SIPF instructors to the SIPF recruit courses. Level Two is an Introductory Police Leadership Program designed to introduce officers to leadership. Level Three is the Middle Management Police Leadership Program is designed to provide experienced police managers with the training they need to further develop their effectiveness. Level Four is the Advanced Police Leadership Program that is designed to deliver leadership training to more senior police officers. Level Five support is to the executive of the SIPF, and includes the conduct of workshops and seminars.
All the training is conducted in the Solomon Islands by a combination of AIPM staff and seconded officers from other jurisdictions. Increasingly, SIPF officers will be used to assist in the delivery of training. The programs are practically focussed and have been tailored to suit the Solomon Islands environment.
