myAIPMThe Australian and New Zealand Police Commissioners, who make up the Board of the Australian Institute of Police Management (AIPM), have appointed Stuart Bartels APM as Executive Director of the AIPM.
The AIPM has a rich and extensive history in educating public safety leaders and provides a valuable contribution to policing and law enforcement in Australia, New Zealand and the broader Pacific.
Board Chair, AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw APM, stated that the appointment comes after an exhaustive executive search. Commissioner Kershaw said: “Speaking on behalf of all Australian and New Zealand Police Commissioners (The Board) I wish to congratulate Stuart on his appointment. As Commissioners, we believe leadership plays a critical role in the safety and security of our community and as such, we are committed to developing our present and emerging executive leaders. I am confident Stuart will continue to capably lead and contribute to the AIPM’s outstanding international reputation as a leading educational institute.”
Mr Kershaw added; “It is noteworthy that Stuart is the first police officer in almost 30 years to hold this important position. I am confident that this strong connection to policing and public safety, along with Stuart’s commercial acumen and his knowledge and experience in police and public safety education, will carry the AIPM forward”.
Stuart spent 36 years with the Western Australia Police implementing a number of transformative projects; including reforms to forensic operations, delivering a $40 million Policing Logistics Operation for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, leading the WA Police ICT portfolio and restructuring the Metropolitan South region and its policing model.
Stuart first came to the AIPM as a participant of the inaugural ANZ Police Leadership Strategy in 2014.
In 2019 Stuart was appointed AIPM Deputy Director and has been in the role of Acting Executive Director since November 2019.
