The Guide aims to provide police with a greater understanding of religious and spiritual diversity and seeks to enhance police services to religious and spiritually diverse communities. The updated Guide provides an overview of nine commonly practised religions and spiritualties (Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Māori) and information directly relevant to operational policing in diverse communities such as considerations for contact and interviewing, searches and detention, death, bereavement and mourning. A key driver of the review of the Guide was the need to ensure the content reflects current demography, including contemporary understandings of diversity and inclusion.
