Volodymyr Zelensky’s appeal lies in his service to Ukrainians above all else

To gain popular appeal among voters, political elites routinely cast themselves in the role of a servant leader — that is, someone who sets aside self-interest in favour of serving others. For the servant leader, the office they occupy is not intended to capture and maintain power, but rather to advance the interests of the constituents they serve. There’s no better example of this at the moment than Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.
