The nature of policing is complex and fast moving, as highlighted in the recent Police Foundation Strategic Review. Ahead of their forthcoming one-day online event on changing practice, Skills for Justice Consultant Toby Lindsay highlights the need for effective leaders to master adaptive challenges.

A core conclusion from the Police Foundation’s Strategic Review of Policing in England and Wales published last month is that the police service of the future will need to look very different from the police service of today.

Among other key findings, this in-depth and extensive report cites the large drop in traditional volume crime rates, the rise of internet crime (particularly fraud and child sexual abuse), and the large-scale increases in reports of domestic violence, as evidence of the huge shift in the nature of crime that policing faces today, and will do in the future.
