A comparative study of police organizational changes during the COVID-19 pandemic: responding to public health crisis or something else?

Police forces, like other organisations, were forced to make changes in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. This study looks at 28 countries to examine the how the police responded to government restrictions related to infection rates and death rates. By April 2020 more than 3.9 billion people in over 90 countries were instructed by their governments to stay at home to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Maskaly et al. (2021) identifies adjustments to police practice as; reduce arrests for minor crimes, suspended/decreased in-person training. This article analyses the restrictive level of governments and diversity across police agencies in each country.
