Perceptions of police training needs in cyber-crime

This article uses interview data from three specialist cybercrime units in Australia to identify a ‘lack of training’ and what that means for each of these units a) front-line officers, b) higher management, c) generalist investigators and d) specialist investigators and civilians in cyber-crime units. The article recognises the differentiated training needs for each of these units and the overall impact on police organisations effectiveness to respond to cyber-crime. Perceived training requirements and potential ways they can be addressed are investigated while being aware of the many inherent cultural, economic and technical challenges of up-skilling large police organisations.
